oil on canvas – 1995
125cm x 125cm
When I first saw the image of the genetically engineered mouse with an human ear on its back in 1997, I immediately thought of the possibility of a whole family of engineered mice on a piece of cheese forming the image of a human head.
The people from my home-town Gouda are nicknamed “cheese-heads”, so naturally the head had to be my own and became a surreal self-portrait as cheese-head.
